There is no numeric limit, only a distinctness test. Here is when additional profiles are legitimate, when they cause suspensions, and how to consolidate if you already have too many.
"Can I create another listing for..." is one of the most common questions in local SEO, and the answer is genuinely more permissive than most people assume. Multiple profiles are allowed in several situations. They are also the fastest route to a suspension when the situation does not qualify.
The rule is not about how many. It is about whether each profile represents something Google recognises as a distinct entity.
This guide covers when additional profiles are legitimate, when they are not, and how to structure multiple listings so they strengthen each other rather than competing.

A business may have as many profiles as it has genuinely distinct locations or entities, so the question is never how many but whether each qualifies.
There is no numeric limit. There is a qualifying test.
Each profile needs:
If two profiles fail those tests, they are duplicates, and duplicates split ranking signals and risk suspension for both.
🛠️ Action Step: For each profile you have or want, ask whether a customer could distinguish it from the others without being told. That is the practical version of the test.
Additional profiles are permitted for separate physical locations, individual practitioners, distinct departments and genuinely separate brands.
Separate locations. The clearest case. Each staffed location with its own address qualifies.
Individual practitioners. Doctors, lawyers, agents and similar professionals who are individually licensed and deal with clients directly may have a profile alongside the practice, subject to specific rules.
Distinct departments. A dealership's sales and service departments, or a hospital's separate clinics, may qualify where each has its own entrance, hours and phone.
Separate brands. A company trading under two genuinely distinct customer-facing brands, covered in more depth in the two-brand tooling guide.
Additional profiles are not permitted for service areas, keyword variations, individual services or virtual addresses, and each of these is a common suspension cause.
Not permitted:
The city-per-profile idea is the most common and most damaging. Businesses create listings for every town they serve, all get suspended, and the primary listing's trust suffers alongside.
⚠️ Common Mistake: Creating a listing for a service area rather than a location. Service areas are configured within a single profile, not represented by additional ones.
Individual practitioner profiles are allowed alongside a practice listing, but only for genuinely individually licensed professionals who deal directly with clients.
This is legitimate and frequently done wrongly.
Generally qualifying: doctors, dentists, lawyers, real estate agents, insurance agents, therapists, accountants.
The rules that matter:
The sole-practitioner case is the common error. A solo dentist creating both a practice profile and a personal one has created a duplicate, because there is only one entity.
Give each profile distinct details, distinct content and its own reviews, because near-identical profiles undermine the distinctness that justifies them.
Each profile needs:
Shared photography is the giveaway. Identical images across supposedly distinct profiles suggests they are not distinct, and it is one of the easier things to fix.
📊 Flento Data: Across multi-profile setups, listings sharing descriptions and imagery experience more quality issues over time than those with genuinely distinct content, because the shared content undermines the distinction.
Consolidate excess profiles by merging rather than deleting, because merging preserves reviews while deletion discards them.
Businesses frequently discover they have accumulated profiles over the years.
How to resolve it:
Do not simply delete duplicates with reviews. A merge request may transfer them; deletion certainly will not. The duplicate profile guide covers the process in detail.

Q: How many Google Business Profiles can one business have? A: There is no numeric limit. The test is whether each profile represents a genuinely distinct location or entity with its own staffing, phone number and identity.
Q: Can I create a profile for each city I serve? A: No. Service areas are configured within a single profile. Creating listings per city is a common cause of suspension, and it frequently damages the primary listing's standing too.
Q: Can individual practitioners have their own profiles? A: Yes, where they are individually licensed and deal with clients directly, alongside the practice listing. A sole practitioner running a single-practitioner practice should generally have one profile, not two.
Q: Can a dealership have separate sales and service profiles? A: Often yes, where each department has its own entrance, hours and phone number. It needs careful setup to avoid being treated as a duplicate.
Q: What should I do about duplicate profiles I have found? A: Request a merge rather than deleting, since merging may preserve reviews while deletion discards them. For listings you do not control, use the suggest-an-edit route or contact support with documentation.
Q: Can I create a new profile to escape bad reviews? A: No. It breaches guidelines, forfeits your ranking history, and leaves you competing against your own established listing. Reviews belong to the location.
The answer is more generous than most people expect and stricter than most people apply. Multiple profiles are fine when each represents something a customer could genuinely distinguish, and a suspension risk when they do not.
