Flooring is a high-ticket home improvement purchase that starts with a Google search.
Related research
Homeowners installing new hardwood, tile, carpet, or luxury vinyl plank spend weeks researching before they commit. And that research starts on Google. Searches like "hardwood flooring installation [city]," "flooring company near me," and "tile flooring installer [city]" happen thousands of times every month. The flooring companies that show up in the Google Maps 3-Pack for these searches win the calls, the quotes, and the jobs.
This guide covers the complete local SEO strategy for flooring installation and retail companies to rank on Google Maps, attract homeowners and contractors, and fill their schedule with qualified flooring projects.
Businesses in adjacent categories face many of the same ranking challenges, which we cover in local SEO for fence companies.
We also wrote a niche playbook on local SEO for epoxy & resin flooring contractors for businesses with a similar customer base.
Primary category: Select "Flooring Store" if you have a showroom, or "Flooring Contractor" if you are primarily an installer. You can use both if applicable.
Secondary categories:
Business description: Highlight your specialty and differentiators:
Photos: Flooring is a visual decision. Add before-and-after photos of completed projects, your showroom if you have one, and close-up photos of your most popular product lines.
Services: List every material type and service — hardwood installation, carpet removal and replacement, tile installation, LVP installation, floor refinishing and staining, commercial flooring.
💡 Pro Tip: Add photos organized by flooring type. A homeowner searching for "hardwood floor installer [city]" should see hardwood project photos immediately on your profile.
The same approach carries over to neighboring categories, as our guide to local SEO for siding contractors shows.
If your business sits next to this niche, local SEO for tile and countertop installers shows how the same ideas play out there.
Product and material searches:
Service and intent searches:
Brand and product searches:
Build individual service pages on your website for each material type you specialize in.
We apply a similar framework in our guide to local SEO for garage organization companies.
Flooring is a high-ticket purchase. A review that describes the transformation, the professionalism of the crew, and the quality of the result converts hesitant homeowners better than any ad.
When to ask: At project completion, when the homeowner is walking through their newly installed floors and smiling. This is your peak moment.
Script: "We're so glad you love it! If you have a moment, a quick Google review would help other homeowners find us when they're ready to update their floors. I can text you the link right now."
📊 Flento Data: Flooring companies with 40+ Google reviews win 2.4x more quote requests per month than those with fewer than 15 reviews, even when pricing and geography are similar.
🔥 Quick Win: Use Flento to automate review requests after every completed installation. A post-project text with a review link sent 24 hours after completion gets a dramatically higher response rate than asking in person.
Your website needs dedicated pages for each flooring material and service you offer. One generic "Services" page will not rank.
Page examples:
Each page should have 400+ words specific to that material, a gallery of project photos, pricing guidance if possible, and a quote request form.
Home Depot and Lowe's rank for generic flooring keywords, but they cannot rank for local installer searches as effectively as a local contractor with a fully optimized GBP and local website.
Your competitive advantages to highlight:
Content ideas:
Key directories for flooring companies:
NAP consistency is especially important for flooring companies with multiple locations or showrooms. Every listing must use identical business name, address, and phone.
Monitor monthly:
🔥 Quick Win: Use Flento to track your Google Maps rankings across every zip code in your service area. Most flooring companies rank well near their showroom but lose visibility to competitors in the suburbs where their best projects are located.
One generic services page. Google cannot rank a single page for "hardwood installer," "carpet installer," and "tile installer" simultaneously. Build separate pages for each service.
No before-and-after photos. Flooring transformations are dramatic. A dark, stained floor versus a bright, refinished surface is the most compelling ad you can run. Capture every project.
Not listing commercial work separately. Commercial flooring projects are high-value and searched differently. Add "commercial flooring" as a separate GBP category and service page if you do commercial work.
No free estimate offer on GBP. "Free in-home estimates" is one of the top conversion drivers for flooring companies. Add it to your business description and as a GBP attribute.
Homeowners are searching for flooring contractors right now. The companies that show up on Google Maps, have strong reviews, and demonstrate their work through photos are winning the quote calls. Build your local presence today.
