Parents searching for pediatric OT and adults seeking sensory, hand, or cognitive rehabilitation turn to Google before any other resource.

Occupational therapy is one of the most under-discovered specialties in local search. Patients who could benefit enormously from OT — children with sensory processing disorders, adults recovering from strokes, seniors seeking fall prevention, professionals with repetitive strain injuries — often do not know what they are looking for or how to find it.
When they do search, they use terms like "pediatric occupational therapist near me," "sensory therapy for kids [city]," or "hand therapy [city]." Occupational therapists who rank for these searches in Google Maps consistently attract a steady stream of new patients without relying entirely on physician referrals.
This guide covers the complete local SEO strategy for occupational therapists in private practice.

OT reviews from parents describing how their child's sensory meltdowns decreased, their handwriting improved, or they finally ate a wider variety of foods are extraordinarily compelling for parents facing similar challenges.
When to ask: After a parent specifically expresses gratitude or reports a significant functional milestone.
Script: "That is such a meaningful update — thank you for sharing that with me. Would you be willing to put that experience in a Google review? So many families in [city] are looking for the right therapist, and your story would really help them."

Not listed on AOTA OT Finder. Many OTs overlook this directory, which is specifically used by patients, parents, and referring physicians to find certified occupational therapists.
One generic OT page. A single "Occupational Therapy Services" page cannot rank for pediatric OT, sensory processing, hand therapy, and stroke rehab simultaneously. Build individual pages.
No telehealth visibility. OT telehealth is widely available and expands your geographic reach significantly. If you offer it, list it on your GBP and website prominently.
No content explaining what OT does. Many potential patients do not know what occupational therapy is or how it applies to their specific situation. Explanatory content that connects the condition to OT treatment is your most powerful acquisition tool.
Patients and families who could benefit from occupational therapy are searching online right now — they just may not know the exact words for what they need. Build specialty-focused content, rank on Google Maps, and make it easy to schedule an evaluation.
