Annual contracts on a four-month business change the maths entirely. Here is how to evaluate cost per trading month, what must keep running while you are closed, and what can pause.

Local SEO tools are sold on annual contracts to businesses that trade for four months. A ski hire shop, a pumpkin patch, a pool company, a Christmas light installer. All of them pay twelve months for a platform they will look at between March and September, or not at all.
That is the seasonal business's actual problem with this market, and it is a pricing and workflow question more than a feature one.
This guide covers which local SEO management software suits seasonal operations, how to handle annual pricing on a four-month business, and what needs to keep running while you are closed.
Seasonal businesses should evaluate tools on contract flexibility first, because paying twelve months for four months of use changes the economics entirely.
Feature comparison is secondary if the pricing model does not fit.
Ask every vendor:
Pausing is rare and worth asking about specifically. Some vendors allow it, most do not advertise it, and the difference over a few years is substantial.
🛠️ Action Step: Calculate your tool cost per trading month rather than per calendar month. A $50 platform used four months a year costs $150 per trading month.
Keep profile monitoring and review response running through the off-season, because customers research months ahead and unattended listings drift.
This is where pausing everything backfires.
Must continue off-season:
Can pause off-season:
The asymmetry matters. You can stop asking for reviews; you cannot stop watching the listing.
Track rankings in the weeks before opening, because that is when customers research and when your visibility determines the season.
Rank tracking during your closed period is largely pointless. Rank tracking six weeks before opening is critical.
A seasonal tracking pattern:
The post-season read is the one people skip and it is the most useful, because it tells you what to fix while you have time.
💡 Pro Tip: Do your annual local SEO work in the off-season, when you have time and no customers. Most seasonal businesses attempt it during the season, when they are least able.
Choose a tool that can schedule review requests across the off-season, because seasonal businesses need to spread collection rather than cluster it.
A profile whose newest review is five months old reads as a closed business, which is covered in review management for seasonal businesses.
What the tool needs to do:
Not all platforms support delayed batches. Confirm before buying, since it is the specific capability seasonal businesses need most.

A free tier is disproportionately valuable to a seasonal business, because it lets you drop to minimal monitoring off-season and scale up before opening without cancelling and rejoining.
Use the off-season for the work you cannot do while trading, because that is the genuine advantage of a seasonal business.
Off-season work that pays:
📊 Flento Data: Across seasonal categories, businesses maintaining profile monitoring and limited activity through the closed months retain visibility better into the following season than those going fully dormant.
🔥 Quick Win: Publish next season's opening dates as soon as you know them. It costs nothing, it keeps the profile active, and it captures planners months ahead.
Flento is priced monthly with a free tier, which is what makes year-round monitoring affordable for a four-month business.

Q: Should seasonal businesses pay for tools year-round? A: Partially. Profile monitoring and review response must continue, since customers research off-season and listings drift. Active campaigns and full rank tracking can pause.
Q: How should tool cost be evaluated for a four-month business? A: Per trading month rather than per calendar month. A platform costing $50 monthly used four months a year costs $150 for each month it is actually working.
Q: What matters most during the closed period? A: Profile change monitoring and review responses. Third-party edits and reviews do not pause, and an unattended listing drifts exactly when planners are researching.
Q: When should rank tracking resume? A: Roughly eight weeks before opening, since that is when customers research. Also take one reading immediately after the season, which is the most useful and most skipped.
Q: What tool capability do seasonal businesses need most? A: Delayed or scheduled review requests, so collection can be spread across the closed months rather than clustered into the trading period.
Q: What should be done during the off-season? A: Citation cleanup, page rewrites, photography and fixing whatever last season's reviews complained about. It is the only time you have to do it properly.
Your problem with this software market is the contract, not the capability. Work out your cost per trading month before comparing features, and ask every vendor whether you can pause.
