By February your newest review is from September and the profile looks dormant. Here is how to spread collection across the year without changing anything else about the business.
Related research
A seasonal business collects most of its reviews in a four-month window and then goes quiet. By February, the newest review on the profile is from September, and a customer researching in spring sees a business that looks dormant even though it is operating exactly as intended.
The rating has not changed. The impression has, and impression is what converts.
This guide covers how seasonal businesses keep review profiles alive year-round: when to ask, what to do in the off-season, and how to handle the compressed peak when everything happens at once.

Seasonal businesses appear inactive when their newest review is months old, so the goal is spreading collection rather than increasing total volume.
Nobody reads a review profile and calculates seasonality. They see the date on the most recent review and form an impression.
What this costs:
The fix is distribution, not volume. The same annual number of reviews spread across twelve months reads far better than clustered into four.
🛠️ Action Step: Look at the date of your most recent review. If it is more than two months old, you have this problem now.

Hold back a proportion of peak-season review requests and send them during the quiet months, because a customer will still write a review weeks after the work.
This is the simplest fix and almost nobody does it.
How it works:
Does delay hurt conversion? Somewhat. A request sent two months later converts less well than one sent the same day. But a review arriving in January is worth more than a marginal extra review in July, because January is when your profile looks dead.

Ask customers whose experience continues beyond installation during the off-season, because they can genuinely comment months later.
Some work is judged over time rather than at handover.
Examples:
These reviews are also better. "It has performed through a full winter" is more persuasive than "the installation went smoothly," and it can only be written later.
💡 Pro Tip: Build a list at peak of customers whose work you can follow up on months later. That list becomes your off-season review programme.

Generate off-season reviews through maintenance, servicing and preparation work, because those jobs are real, useful and create fresh review moments.
Most seasonal businesses have an off-season service they under-promote.
Examples:
Each of those jobs is a review opportunity in the months when you have none. Promoting them serves the business twice, filling capacity and keeping the profile alive.
Tool choice matters here, so see local SEO tools for seasonal businesses for the options we would shortlist.
Automate the peak-season ask, because that is when manual requesting reliably stops and when most of your customers pass through.
The paradox of seasonal work is that the busiest period generates the most potential reviews and the least capacity to ask for them.
What to do:
Structure for this is in how to build a review management system.
📊 Flento Data: Across local profiles, review recency correlates with performance more strongly than total volume, which is precisely why the seasonal gap costs more than it appears to.
Post, update photos and respond to old reviews during the off-season, because review dates are only one of the signals suggesting a business is active.
If reviews genuinely cannot be generated in some months, other activity helps.
Off-season profile activity:
Set genuine off-season hours rather than marking closed. A profile flagged as closed during the months customers research for next season is invisible at exactly the wrong time.
🔥 Quick Win: Schedule one profile post a month through your off-season now, while you have time. It takes an hour and keeps the listing looking alive.
Flento spreads review collection across the year and keeps the profile active when the work is not.
Google Review Management Software automates peak-season requests and schedules a held-back batch through the quiet months.
Google Business Profile Optimizer flags stale photos and empty fields, which matter more when review flow is naturally paused.

Q: Why does the off-season gap in reviews matter? A: Because customers judge activity by the date of your most recent review. A profile whose newest review is five months old reads as a business that may have closed, regardless of the rating.
Q: Should seasonal businesses delay some review requests deliberately? A: Yes. Holding back a proportion of peak requests and sending them through quiet months converts slightly less well per request but produces a profile that looks continuously active.
Q: Which customers are best to ask in the off-season? A: Those whose work is judged over time, such as after a full swimming season or heating season. Those reviews are also more persuasive because they speak to durability.
Q: What if we genuinely have no customers in the off-season? A: Promote maintenance and preparation services, which are real work and create review moments. Failing that, keep the profile active through posts, photos and responses to older reviews.
Q: Should a seasonal business mark itself closed in the off-season? A: Generally no. Customers research seasonal services months ahead, and a closed flag makes you invisible during that window. Set genuine limited hours instead.
Q: How many reviews a month should a seasonal business aim for? A: At least one, ideally more. The goal is that no month passes without a new review, so the profile never reads as dormant.
Your rating is fine. Your problem is that in February your profile looks like a business that closed in September, and the customer planning next summer's project cannot tell the difference.
Hold back half your peak requests and send them through the quiet months. Ask the pool customer after a full season rather than at handover.
