Nobody wakes up wanting to throw an axe. Here is how to target activity and occasion searches, answer the safety questions people never voice, and fill weeknights with corporate bookings.

Axe throwing is an activity business pretending to be a venue business. Nobody wakes up wanting to throw an axe. They want something to do on Saturday, an office event that will not be excruciating, or a birthday that people will actually remember.
That means you are competing with escape rooms, bowling and mini golf, and most axe throwing venues market themselves as though the axe is the point.
This guide covers how axe throwing venues rank for the searches that fill lanes, why corporate bookings carry the business, and how to handle the safety questions everyone has and nobody asks.

Axe throwing venues should target activity and occasion searches, because customers are looking for something to do rather than for axe throwing specifically.
Your competitor is not the venue across town. It is every other option for a Friday night.
Searches that fill lanes:
The generic activity searches carry far more volume than "axe throwing," and a page built around bachelor parties or team building reaches people who had not considered you.
🛠️ Action Step: Build a page for team building and one for birthday parties in your city. Both will outperform anything you write about throwing technique.
Build a dedicated corporate page, because team events book whole lanes at better rates, book midweek when you are quiet, and rebook annually.
A twelve-person team event on a Wednesday is worth more than a full Saturday of walk-ins.
That page needs:
Write it for an office manager or an EA. Their concerns are cost per head, whether everyone can participate, and whether it will be a logistical problem, in that order.
Address safety, age limits and physical requirements explicitly, because people are quietly worried and will not book while uncertain.
Someone organising an event is imagining an accident and a lawsuit.
Cover on every booking page:
The alcohol question is the one organisers worry about. Explaining your policy clearly, whatever it is, resolves a real concern for whoever is responsible for the group.
💡 Pro Tip: Add a short video of a first session. It answers safety, expectation and format questions at once and converts far better than any amount of text.
Be explicit about whether walk-ins are accepted, because a group that arrives and cannot throw leaves a review about it.
State clearly:
Weekend capacity is the usual friction. A venue booked out on Saturdays that does not say so generates avoidable complaints from people who turned up hopefully.
Promote leagues and memberships if you run them, because repeat customers stabilise revenue between event bookings.
What to publish:
The joining-without-a-team question matters. Plenty of interested people have nobody to come with, and saying that individuals are placed into teams removes the barrier.
List walk-in throwing, private events, corporate bookings and leagues separately, and photograph groups rather than equipment.
Setup that works:
📊 Flento Data: Across experience-based businesses, profiles with a direct booking link convert noticeably more profile views into reservations than those directing visitors to a homepage.
🔥 Quick Win: Ask for a review at the end of the session, while the group is still together and in a good mood. Groups review far more readily than individuals.
Templates for harder cases are in how to respond to negative reviews.

Q: What should an axe throwing venue target in local search? A: Activity and occasion searches such as team building, birthdays and things to do tonight. Those carry far more volume than the category term and reach people who had not considered it.
Q: Why do corporate bookings matter so much? A: They fill whole lanes at better rates, book midweek when you are quiet, and tend to rebook annually. A twelve-person Wednesday event outperforms a busy Saturday of walk-ins.
Q: What safety information should be published? A: Supervision, lane barriers, minimum age, physical requirements and your alcohol policy. Organisers are quietly imagining an accident, and answering unprompted removes the hesitation.
Q: Should venues state whether walk-ins are accepted? A: Yes, along with typical weekend availability. Groups who arrive and cannot throw leave reviews about it, and that is entirely avoidable.
Q: Are leagues worth promoting? A: Yes, for revenue stability between events. Make clear that individuals without a team can join, since that is the barrier for most interested people.
Q: When should you ask for reviews? A: At the end of the session, while the group is together and in a good mood. Groups review far more readily than individuals, and the moment passes quickly.
