Cosmetic dentistry patients are the most valuable elective healthcare patients in any dental practice. A single smile makeover can be worth $15,000 to $40,000. Veneers cases regularly run $8,000 to $20,000. And every one of these high-value patients starts their journey the same way: they search Google for a cosmetic dentist in their city.
Unlike emergency dental, cosmetic dental patients research for weeks or months before booking. They look at before-and-after galleries, read dozens of reviews, compare providers, and want to understand exactly what their smile transformation will look like. The practices that rank well on Google Maps and have the strongest online presence capture these patients before the competition even gets a chance.
This guide covers the complete local SEO strategy for cosmetic dental practices to rank on Google Maps, attract high-value elective patients, and grow their cosmetic case volume through organic search.

Primary category: "Cosmetic Dentist" — use this if you focus primarily on cosmetic work. Otherwise use "Dentist" and add "Cosmetic Dentist" as a secondary category.
Secondary categories:
Business description: Write a description that emphasizes transformation and expertise: "[Practice Name] specializes in smile transformations for patients in [City] and surrounding areas. Our services include porcelain veneers, dental implants, Invisalign, professional teeth whitening, full-mouth reconstruction, and smile makeovers designed for natural-looking, life-changing results."
Services: Add every cosmetic procedure with brief descriptions:
Photos: Before-and-after photos are the single most important content type for cosmetic dentistry. Add 20+ clinical before-and-after photos showcasing veneers, whitening, and implant cases with patient consent.
Businesses in adjacent categories face many of the same ranking challenges, which we cover in local SEO for emergency dentists.
Before-and-after photos are what converts cosmetic dental prospects better than any other content. Patients want to see a smile like theirs transformed.
For your GBP:
For your website:
Photo quality: Clinical dental photography requires proper lighting and camera settings. Invest in proper dental photography setup or hire a dental photographer — low-quality photos undermine your premium positioning.
💡 Pro Tip: Patients identifying with a case similar to theirs in your gallery are 3x more likely to book a consultation than those who just read about your services. Variety in your gallery (different teeth shapes, starting conditions, age groups) increases conversion across more patient profiles.
Businesses in adjacent categories face many of the same ranking challenges, which we cover in local SEO for plastic surgeons.

Comparison searches:
A cosmetic dental website needs dedicated pages for each major procedure to rank in local search.
Essential cosmetic dental pages:
Financing section: Cosmetic dental patients are highly price-sensitive to payment terms. Prominently feature financing options (CareCredit, Sunbit, in-house payment plans) on every procedure page and in your GBP description.
Cosmetic dental reviews are among the most powerful in healthcare because they often describe life-changing outcomes. "I finally smiled in photos for the first time in 15 years" or "I got the promotion 3 months after my veneers" — these reviews convert researching patients instantly.
When to ask: After a case is delivered when the patient sees their new smile in the mirror for the first time. This is peak emotional moment.
Script: "You look amazing. We are so proud of what we built together. Would you be willing to share your experience in a Google review? A lot of patients like you are out there searching for exactly this kind of transformation, and your story could help them take the first step."
📊 Flento Data: Cosmetic dental practices with 40+ Google reviews book 2.9x more new cosmetic consultations per month than those with fewer than 15 reviews, even when procedure pricing is similar.
🔥 Quick Win: Use Flento to automate post-procedure review requests timed to 24 hours after the final visit. Cosmetic patients sent a personalized text with a review link at peak satisfaction leave reviews at over 60% rate.

🔥 Quick Win: Use Flento to track your Google Maps ranking across your entire metro area. High-income neighborhoods with your ideal cosmetic dental patients may be 10 miles from your office — knowing if you rank there tells you whether you are visible to your most valuable prospects.
No before-and-after photos on GBP. The single biggest missed opportunity. Patients will not book a cosmetic consultation without seeing your clinical results. Add 20+ before-and-after photos today.
Generic service descriptions. "We offer veneers" does not convert. Describe your process, your material choices, your lab partners, and your expected outcomes in specific terms.
No procedure-specific pages. A single "Cosmetic Dentistry" page cannot rank for "porcelain veneers [city]" AND "teeth whitening [city]" AND "Invisalign [city]" simultaneously. Build individual pages.
No financing information. Most cosmetic patients finance their treatment. If your website does not address this, you are losing patients who would have booked with financing terms visible.
The patients who want their dream smile are searching right now. The cosmetic dental practices that show up on Google Maps with strong reviews, clinical before-and-after photos, and procedure-specific pages are capturing those patients every single day.
